Letter to the Editor
DeNobile, Mike
Issue date: 5/2/07 Section: Opinion
As for the comparison to Manhattan College's library, I believe this is unfounded and disappointing. The financial resources available to Manhattan College's library allow it to have such an extensive collection that could be accessed on a twenty-four hour basis. With the resources available to the library and its staff, they not only do a great job but are willing to get any book necessary for a student upon request.
As for dusting off old books, I recently had to do a paper where I discovered that I was the first person in over ten years to take out the book; and this has been my experience on many occasion for a wide variety of subjects. Old books, even in the fields of science and medicine, do not necessarily mean obsolete. Even books written in these fields from over 200 years ago are valuable sources; it's a sin that the Mount community seems to fixate over the Internet in lieu of taking advantage of this fountain of information. It may be primitive in this day and age, but the power of knowledge will always be found in the bindings of a book, no matter how old they may be.
Sincerely,
Michael "Mag Dee" DeNobile
